Challenger bank names four directors to run new team

Two ex-Santander and two former Lloyds Bank directors have been appointed to Metro Bank's new large commercial banking team.

Andy Veares, director of large commercial banking, will lead the team, which includes Paul Robinson and Simon Vallance, both former relationship directors at Santander; as well as Mark Byrne and Andrew Cremin, who both held roles as directors at Lloyds Banking Group.

All four have been appointed as commercial banking directors of Metro Bank’s newest team, which will operate with firms whose turnover is above £10m and debt in excess of £3m.

Metro aims to support organisations with all their day-to-day banking requirements, including management buy-ins and outs as well as asset purchases.

“We’ve seen unprecedented demand for our commercial banking services over the past year, particularly from larger organisations who are looking for traditional relationship banking, delivered by experienced commercial bankers and underpinned by state-of-the-art technology,” Andy explained.

“We’re providing customers with a true banking alternative.”

Towards the end of 2016, Metro Bank unveiled a new commercial banking platform in response to customer feedback.

The new large commercial banking team will help larger businesses

Andy added that he was delighted to welcome Paul, Simon, Mark and Andrew to the team.

“Their wide-ranging expertise, coupled with the bank’s commitment to ‘no stupid bank rules’ will enable us to provide customers with a superior banking experience geared around their needs.

“They will each play a valuable role, not just in the team, but in the direction of our commercial bank, and I look forward to working with all four of them.”
