TV star speaks at inaugural Women in Specialist Lending Event

Former Coronation Street actor Nicola Thorp (pictured above) urged businesswomen to "make space" to empower themselves at the first Women in Specialist Lending Event (WISE).

The panel discussion in Manchester — held at the beginning of March and sponsored by founding member and specialist lender Together — is part of a series of networking opportunities to encourage personal and career development among female specialist finance leaders.

Nicola — who was one of the guest speakers — said businesses needed to do more to tackle gender imbalance, particularly at the top level.

She added this could only be achieved through more women championing their own talents and abilities and recognising each other’s achievements.

“It’s about making space and not taking space, making the workplace truly diverse and equal,” she said.

The actress said WISE was a “fantastic opportunity to recognise the achievements of women within the specialist lending sector.”

“Female-focused networking groups are essential if we are going to see equal gender representations at all levels of the industry,” she added.

Tracey Bailey, head of lending transformation at Together, and executive sponsor of WISE, stated: “Our vision is to grow the initiative as wide as possible and support each other, personally and professionally, through an inclusive networking community, creating more opportunities for women in specialist lending.”
