The review lists several proposed measures, including physically checking properties to ascertain laws in areas like health, safety, noise, and anti-social behaviour, are being followed.
This aims to improve the staycation rental sector and protect those living in areas where tourists flock.
The review comes on the back of a surge in holiday let activity in recent months — according to Quotezone (based on over 25,000 holiday home insurance policies), there has been a 102% increase in the number of UK holiday homes let between January-May this year, compared to pre-pandemic levels during the same period in 2018.

Based on Quotezone's data, the tourist hotspots that have seen the highest regional increase in holiday let activity include:
- Norfolk — 169.23%
- Cumbria — 164.29%
- Yorkshire — 154.17%
- Cornwall — 59.42%
- Devon — 50%
Despite the positive growth in this sector, Quotezone predicts that the government’s proposed changes to short-term tourist accommodation could have the biggest impact on these five regions, as well as other tourist hotspots that are more reliant on Airbnb-style income.
Greg Wilson, founder of Quotezone, said: “Our data supports the trend that Airbnb-style letting is increasing in England, as many people rent parts of their home to generate funds.
“Short-term and holiday rentals play an increasingly important role in the economy and are valuable sources of income for homeowners across the country.
“Therefore, while it’s important that the government reviews the challenges presented by short-term letting on local communities and does indeed put steps in place to protect them, it must be remembered that this is now an essential form of income for millions.
“As many are currently feeling the cost of living squeeze, it is exactly this additional revenue stream that could help get many through this tough period.
“Landlords should take all necessary precautions to protect their income during this turbulent time, such as landlord insurance, to help safeguard finances and help avoid unexpected costs.”
