Bridging & Commercial caught up with Nick Hilton, Head of Lending at Century Capital, to find out more about the lender's future funding lines.

1.    What does your role consist of and what roles/experience have you had in the past?

I have oversight on the operational side of the business from sourcing funds to credit, underwriting and completion. I believe I bring a diverse experience to the role due to my background in property funds and alternative investment structures.

2.    Did you always want to work in finance?

I would say that the qualities I have led me to a career in financial services. 

I like the fact that my role incorporates finance with the London property markets.

3.    Why did you decide to join Century Capital?

To work with Paul Munford and to raise the profile of the company.

4.    What one thing would you change about the bridging industry?

I think there are many grey areas left uncovered by the MCD [Mortgage Credit Directive] rulings.

5.    Would you agree that the bridging market is outstripping the mainstream mortgage market? 

Agreed. As we see more and more new lenders entering the market, interest rates are becoming more competitive and affordable to retail investors.

6.    What exciting projects does Century Capital have this year?  

We have several new funding lines in the pipeline and look forward to growing our AUM [assets under management] to accompany our recent re-branding.

7.    What is the biggest challenge for the bridging market this year? 

MCD

8.    Explain the most interesting deal you have seen at Century Capital: 

A £3m, 20% LTV, BVI [British Virgin Islands] deal lent against a North London mansion. 

From a credit perspective, extra diligence is required when dealing with multi-layered companies.

9.    What is your favourite part about the bridging industry? 

The pressure of meeting deadlines keeps you alert at all times. 

The potential for repeat business is very dependent on how you deliver to your clients. 

10.    Who is your idol and why?

I don’t really have an idol, but both Prince Harry and William make me very proud to be British. 

Their work ethic, their loyalty and their tireless charity work should be a huge inspiration to the next generation.
