Mortgage Sleep Out reveals charity partner

End Youth Homelessness has been confirmed as the official charity partner for Mortgage Sleep Out.

The first ever Mortgage Sleep Out will take place on 30th November 2018, with a series of locally organised sleep out events across the UK.

End Youth Homelessness provides a national platform to raise awareness, share experiences and generate voluntary income.

Each year, its member charities house and support more than 26,000 young people facing homelessness.

The idea for the Mortgage Sleep Out was started when Rob Jupp, CEO at Brightstar Financial, tweeted: “Shocking how many ‘rough sleepers’ there are in London.

“I can’t remember a time where there have been so many.

“It’s a national outrage.”

Responding to his tweet, Maria Harris, director of intermediary lending at Atom bank, replied: “It’s heart breaking.

“Maybe we should do a financial services sleep out to raise funds and awareness?”

The idea soon gathered momentum, with the hashtag #MortgageSleepOut trending highly on Twitter and more than 40 firms confirming their interest within a few days.

Nick Connolly, managing director at End Youth Homelessness, said the Mortgage Sleep Out was a brilliant idea.

“It recognises that youth homelessness can end.

“If we all do our bit and give homeless young people meaningful opportunities, they can overcome their dire circumstances and stand on their own two feet.

“We are incredibly grateful that Rob Jupp, his colleagues and the mortgage industry have decided to help end youth homelessness.

“We can do this.”

Businesses and individuals can register to take part and run their own events and participants can also set up their own fundraising page and start raising money.
