ASTL Conference 2022: UTB underwriter wins the first Benson Hersch memorial award

Nathan Wilson, underwriter at United Trust Bank (UTB), was announced as the first winner of the Benson Hersch memorial bursary at this year’s ASTL conference held yesterday (20th October).

The award was handed out at the event by Jonathan Newman, senior partner at Brightstone Law.

It is the first of its kind to be awarded since the bursary was launched in memory of the late Benson Hersch, former CEO at the ASTL.

The bursary was created to train and develop individuals who demonstrate an appetite to promote the interests of the short-term mortgage lending community, as well as a commitment to the values promoted by the association.

When announcing the award, Jonathan said: “Our winner is said to demonstrate a huge depth of knowledge, strong work ethic, integrity, tenacity, and potential to be thought leader in industry — these are the very same values that Benson held so dear.

“But what marks this individual as a very worthy winner is his clear and obvious commitment to increase his personal knowledge, to expand his expertise and develop his professionalism for the good of his colleagues, his business, and for short-term lending."
