p>A Lord and star of the hit BBC show The Apprentice has completed the sale of a high-end commercial property in Mayfair worth an estimated £80 million, almost £50 million more than the tycoon had originally paid, reported The Independent.
Lord Alan Sugar, alongside his property investment arm Amsprop Estates, accepted the bid for the office block at 2 Harewood Place from an unnamed Hong Kong property investor.
Amsprop bought the building, which sits just west of Oxford Circus, for £31 million back in February 2008, and has since completed a series of major refurbishments on the 18,000 sq ft. property.
Speaking on the sale of the building, one anonymous source told Estates Gazette magazine: “Amsprop had not been looking to sell its trophy West End building, but as a shrewd investor it is not going to turn away the option of making a nearly £50 million profit.”
The Hong-Kong based buyer has reportedly purchased the Linda Morey Smith-designed building, in a bid of build up a long-term portfolio of income-generating assets in the capital.
Tenants in the property include recruitment firms Office Angels and MacDonald & Co, as well as Starwood Capital.
The transaction comes at a time when property sales in the West End are becoming scarce, as supply dries up in the Capital. Last month, just £212 million of property went up for sale in the West End, compared with £248 million in April 2012.
Lord Sugar’s two-and-a-half fold increase does however indicate the surge in commercial property prices in West London, due to the wall of foreign investment.
