It is understood that City fund Lansdowne Partners has paid £10 million for a stake of around two per cent in the challenger bank.

According to Sky News reports, Toscafund has put £30 million into the lender for a circa seven per cent stake.

It is thought that Aldermore Bank is planning to float on the stock market next year.

The news came on the day the lender officially joined the Help to Buy 2 Scheme, unveiling its new loan offering.

Aldermore was unavailable for comment.
