p>A brokerage has been targeted by a wave of scammers attempting to broker false products to consumers.
Financial advisor firm, the deVere Group, has alerted possible clients to remain aware of clone brokers that have been attempting to impersonate the firm and sell false products.
The global independent financial advisor firm which has 80,000 clients in 100 different countries provides extensive mortgage services both in the UK and overseas. The firm has access to over 100 UK and overseas lenders.
Kevin White, deVere United Kingdom’s Head of Financial Planning, said in a statement: "After we warned about so-called clone companies last year, we have recently become aware of a new group of these Wolf of Wall Street-esque scam artists who are contacting individuals and claiming to be from the bona fide deVere, which is a fully authorised, regulated and licenced firm.
He added that the individuals are purporting to be from the firm in order to sell products to unsuspecting potential clients, even going as far to pose as specific deVere consultants.
While closing his statement, Kevin said: "Imitation is certainly not the highest form of flattery in this regard. The deplorable actions of these scammers could destroy the finances of those individuals caught out by them and damage the hard-earned reputations of serious, legitimate companies who deliver a results-driven service to protect and maximise the wealth of their clients."
The suspicious activity has been reported to authority bodies, and potential victims are asked to contact the advisor firm, Action Fraud as well as a local police force. Although, they are reminded: “But, of course, do not tip off the crooks that you are on to them.”
In regards to its mortgage services, the broker stated: “Your deVere United Kingdom Mortgage Specialist will guide you every step of the way. Starting with the initial search for the best mortgage for your individual circumstances, the Adviser will get a mortgage agreed for you. They will then guide you through the application process, all the way through to getting a formal mortgage offer and help the lender obtain the money directly to your vendor, liaising with your conveyer at every step of this process.”
Last week, B & C Distributor reported that regulatory body the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) was tangled up in a false fee scheme. The FOS notified the public that it had received reports that fraudsters falsely claiming to be from the body were contacting members of the public and demanding £150 from them to “release” their redress.
